Beth Castle Lovell is a teaching artist who maintains a daily drawing practice which began as a New Years Resolution many years ago. She has an MFA in Painting from Yale and a BFA from Indiana University, Bloomington.
My art draws upon experiences of daily life: weather, errands, family. These are not the larger narrative events you’d recall when someone asks about your day. Rather, I record quieter moments of visual interest: groupings of clouds or trees, the pose of someone lost in concentration, random patterns in puddles or shadows.
My preferred medium is ink wash drawings. The brevity and the improvisation that comes with working in ink is a joyous performance-the interaction of what I am seeing and what I am making.
